Analysis

This is the most difficult matchup to predict in the East. Toronto is the more talented team, has played well all season, and is paced by breakout seasons from DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry. Remember this team was very close to being blown up in the ‘Riggin for Wiggins’ campaign. Where Toronto leads in talent, they lack in experience, and coaching. Dwayne Casey has done a fine job this year, but he’s never coached in the playoffs, and didn’t even play in the league. This will be a tough test for him with an entire core rotation under the age of 28. On the flipside, what the Nets lack in talent, they make up for in experience. Nobody forgets their submarine dive to start the season, and had they been playing in any other conference than the ‘Leastern’ they probably would have sunk. Despite injuries, they’ve managed to pull together and right the ship. Shaun Livingston’s knees have held up, Paul Pierce is having success as a small-ball power forward, and Mason Plumlee has filled in nicely down low. Yes, this is Coach Jason Kidd’s first go around, but he’s at least been there as a player, and his key players have many times. That’s enough for me to give them the edge in a tough battle.
